Generative Bionics Humanoid Robotics: An Italian Startup Integrating AI and Advanced Robotics

The Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), based in Genoa, announced the birth of a new startup devoted to humanoid robot development known as Generative Bionics. The startup has already raised 70 million euros in early funding rounds, one of the highest figures in the European deep-tech sector.

The goal of Generative Bionics is to bring to market a new type of humanoid robot that combines AI and advanced mechanics, technically defined as Physical AI, to operate in real-world environments such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and retail. The objective is to ensure that these robots can collaborate with human workers, performing repetitive, arduous, or dangerous tasks and increasing operational capabilities and safety.

Generative Bionics, described by IIT as the transfer of science to industry, is the result of over twenty years of research activity conducted in the field of robotics. The initial capital raised will accelerate product development, train Physical AI systems, validate industrial production, and build the first production facility. The full version of the first humanoid will be shown in an international preview at CES Las Vegas, while the first industrial contracts for using the robots in production contexts are expected in the first months of 2026.
